Turtz Award - call for nominations
The Turtz Award for Contribution to Cinematography recognises someone who uplifts, supports, or empowers the work of cinematographers, often quietly, generously, and well beyond what’s required.
Named in memory of the influential camera department icon Ian ‘Turtz’ Turtill, this award honours those who champion the craft from behind the lens, whether that’s a colourist, 1st AC, equipment provider, educator, or anyone going the extra mile to support great cinematography.
This award is typically given to someone who is not a working cinematographer or NZCS member themselves, and who may otherwise go unrecognised. It could be for a standout contribution this year, or for decades of behind-the-scenes excellence.
Last year’s recipient, Henry West, is the perfect example – a 1st AC whose skill, care, and commitment embody the spirit of this award. We want to shine that same spotlight on someone equally deserving in 2025.
To nominate: Email eo@nzcine.com with their name and a short paragraph about their contribution.
Deadline: Sunday 1 September 2025
The recipient will be selected by the NZCS Committee and honoured at the 2025 NZCS Awards Dinner this October.
Let’s shine a light on the people who make us better.
