Christchurch City Council has confirmed $332,000 in funding for the Screen CanterburyNZ Production Grant this financial year.  The fund has also attracted $30,000 in third-party investment, complementing the $68,000 carried over from last year and bringing the total available funding to $430,000.

The grant is expected to open for applications in early 2027 and is available for productions filmed in the region that can demonstrate clear benefits for Canterbury through local expenditure, employment, skills development, industry growth and wider economic impact. We are also looking to allocate a small part of the funding for early-stage production development.

It’s fantastic to see continued investment in Canterbury’s screen sector, and we look forward to the strong level of interest and high-quality applications the grant continues to attract.

See our latest story on the upcoming filming of Māui and Elvis here in November and December 2026 - a great example of the Screen CanterburyNZ Production Grant delivering benefits for both the screen sector and the wider regional economy.

More information about the application process will be available in early 2027.
