Understanding the 20km Travel Zone
The Travel Zone is generally a 20km radius from the central police station in:
- Auckland
- Christchurch
- Dunedin
Wellington and Queenstown operate under negotiated geographic boundaries due to regional layout.
Inside the Zone
Travel within the 20km radius is treated as normal commuting.
It is not considered paid production time.
Outside the Zone
Once a crew member crosses the defined Travel Zone boundary, travel becomes production time and is chargeable in 15-minute increments.
Why It Matters
Understanding where the boundary sits protects both crew and production from billing disputes, incorrect assumptions, and scheduling misunderstandings.
