NZSPR and Co-Production Certification Applications Move Online
Applications for the New Zealand Screen Production Rebate for New Zealand productions and official co-production certification from 28th of April 2026 moved online through the New Zealand Film Commission’s application portal, Tomo mai.
From 28 April 2026, applications for the following must be submitted online:
- New Zealand Screen Production Rebate applications for New Zealand productions, including registration, provisional, interim and final certificates
- Certification applications, including official co-production certification, provisional and final, and certification of a New Zealand film for tax purposes
NZFC says the shift is designed to streamline the application process and support more efficient assessment and processing. Applicants will need to register for a Tomo mai account, or log in to an existing account, before submitting through the portal.
Applications for the International Rebate will move online at a later date. For now, those applications should continue to use the forms available on the NZFC website.
NZFC has also updated its FAQs for both the Rebate and co-production certification. For project-specific questions, applicants can contact the Co-Production and Incentives team at nzspr@nzfilm.co.nz.
Also noted in NZFC’s May update
NZFC also noted that over the coming months, staff will be active in key markets across Australia, the United States, Asia and Europe. This includes Screen Forever in Australia, ongoing screen attraction meetings in Los Angeles, and major programmes in London, Cannes and Annecy.
The update says this international work is focused on supporting local filmmakers to connect with the right partners in the right markets, while positioning Aotearoa as a trusted, capable and welcoming production partner supported by a skilled local workforce.
New Zealand and India have signed a Free Trade Agreement, strengthening economic and cultural links between the two countries. For the screen sector, the agreement includes audiovisual services and sets clearer ground rules for working together.
The Commission’s work has also been recognised at this year’s Global Production Awards, with nominations for Film Commission of the Year and Sustainability Initiative, alongside a Sustainable Production Award nomination for NZFC-supported film Mum. I’m Alien Pregnant.
