Te Pae Matarau - The Everyone Project Aotearoa
Te Pae Matarau - The Everyone Project Aotearoa, is a new initiative developed by NZ On Air, the New Zealand Film Commission and Te Māngai Pāho to gather safe, accessible, accurate, and respectful data about the screen workforce. It is a survey platform that collects workforce data to help inform future policy, research, advocacy and funding decisions across the sector.
The agencies have worked with an experienced provider who has already rolled out a version of this project in Australia. They have taken significant steps to ensure privacy is protected. Individual survey responses are confidential and will not be visible to producers, subcontractors or funding agencies. Any reporting will use aggregated, de-identified data to ensure individuals cannot be identified.
If you are a producer:
If you receive production funding from NZ On Air, the New Zealand Film Commission or Te Māngai Pāho, participation in Te Pae Matarau will be a requirement of your funding agreement. Producers will need to register their production company and funded project on the platform and provide project information such as genre, budget and format.
You will also be asked to upload cast and crew contact information (with appropriate privacy permissions and consent where required). This enables Te Pae Matarau to send survey invitations directly to cast and crew.
If you work in the screen sector:
If you are attached to a project that receives production funding from NZ On Air, the New Zealand Film Commission or Te Māngai Pāho, you will receive an invitation to participate in Te Pae Matarau.
The survey takes approximately two minutes to complete and asks questions such as your location, industry experience, education, family responsibilities and other demographic information. Participation is voluntary, and you can skip most questions or choose “prefer not to say”. You can also update or withdraw your information at any time.
If you're working on multiple funded productions, you will only need to complete the survey once, provided the same email address is used across those productions.
In future, Te Pae Matarau will allow screen sector workers who are not attached to a funded project to create their own accounts and participate. However, this functionality is not yet available. Currently, participation occurs through projects that have registered with Te Pae Matarau.
By participating in Te Pae Matarau – The Everyone Project Aotearoa, you are helping build a richer picture of Aotearoa New Zealand’s screen workforce. The insights generated will support future research, policy development, sector advocacy and funding decisions, ensuring the industry has better information to understand and respond to the needs of the people who work within it.
