Who Would YOU Choose?
Our Officers and Committee Members help shape the Guild’s priorities, raise the issues affecting crew and make decisions about how the Guild represents and supports screen workers. That is why it is important to have experienced, thoughtful people around the table who genuinely understand the realities of working in our industry.
Screen work is different from most other industries. Our members navigate freelance careers, irregular hours, changing productions, regional pressures, health and safety risks, rate negotiations, contracts, rapid technological change and the constant challenge of building a sustainable career.
The people representing screen workers need to understand that world.
They also need to be able to listen, consider different perspectives, ask informed questions and deal with sensitive or complex matters in a fair and professional manner. Branch Committees identify the issues affecting members locally and help bring those concerns into the Guild’s national discussions, while the National Executive is responsible for the overall governance and direction of the Guild.
Who should you nominate?
Think about the experienced members you have worked alongside and ask yourself:
- Who understands the working lives of screen crew?
- Who listens to others and treats people fairly?
- Who has sound judgement and communicates professionally?
- Who could bring useful industry, regional or departmental knowledge to the table?
- Who would take the responsibility seriously and act in the interests of members?
They do not need to have held a Guild role before. Experience can come from many years in a department, working across different productions, supporting other crew, solving problems or being someone people already turn to for sound advice.
Good governance knowledge can be learned. What matters is that the person brings integrity, commitment, a willingness to participate and a genuine interest in strengthening the Guild for screen workers.
Serving as an Officer is both a privilege and a responsibility. Officers are expected to act in good faith, put the Guild’s interests first, participate actively, protect confidential information and contribute to collective decision-making.
How to make a nomination
Before submitting a nomination:
- Talk to the person first
Explain why you believe they would be a good representative and confirm that they are willing to be nominated.
- Choose the appropriate role
Read the relevant role description and Officer Eligibility Checklist with them so they understand what the position involves.
- Find an eligible seconder (if required)
Every Nation level nomination (President, Vice President or Treasurer) must be made and seconded by eligible voting Members. A seconder is another eligible Screen Guild member who supports the person you want to nominate and their ability to perform the role.
- Complete the online Nomination Form
The nominee must consent to the nomination and confirm that they meet the eligibility requirements for holding office.
- Submit the completed nomination by 19 August 2026
These requirements help ensure every candidate has knowingly agreed to stand and understands the responsibilities involved.
Your participation matters!
Nominations are the first stage of the election process. Members can only vote for the people who are put forward.
By making a nomination, you are helping ensure members have a strong and representative group of candidates to choose from - including people from different departments, career stages, backgrounds and regions.
Do not assume that someone else will nominate the person you have in mind. A respected and capable member may never consider standing until another member tells them:
“I think you would be good at this.”
Your nomination could be the encouragement they need to step forward.
