Know Your Rights!
Can production change your call time at the last minute?
Yes, but only within reason, and never in a way that risks your rest, safety, or fairness.
While the Screen Industry Workers Act 2022 doesn’t set exact notice periods for call-time changes, it requires every contract to include health & safety and dispute-resolution terms. That means if changes become unreasonable, unsafe, or breach agreed rest/turnaround rules (like those in The Blue Book), you’re entitled to raise a concern.
Productions also have duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to manage fatigue, so cutting heavily into rest breaks can breach those obligations.
In simple terms: last-minute changes happen, but these are not supported when they compromise safety or fairness. If it keeps happening or affects your wellbeing, raise it through your crew rep who can check it with The Screen Guild.
💡 Crew Hack: Keep written records of call-time changes (texts, call sheets, emails). They’re gold if a dispute arises later.
